Contemporary Artist in the Permanent display of MUO
Museum of Arts and Crafts, Zagreb, 1/24/2017 – 4/2/2017
The exhibition as an intervention in the permanent display presupposes a fundamentally different approach from creating exhibitions for typical, empty gallery spaces. This option of 'shift' within the givens opens new perspectives in relation to the original experience of art collections. Dialogue with valuable historical artifacts, is in this case interpreted as a sort of mirroring and confronting the characteristics of creativity in the relation between once-and-now. On one hand, unique, or in small series handmade objects, semantically charged by unique personality of artists and craftsmen, their touch, handwriting, duration of the performance, but also with all the aspects of observing and usage encoded in them. On the other hand, there is the modern mass production, an endless series of identical, fabricated products, convenience, but also the loss of value of individual items. Such frantic multiplication is one of the side effects of contemporary society, and in its final stage, it represents the image of our greed and excess.
